06. Break Away

A quick one to finish off the working week on this balmy Friday night. When I thought of 'Break Away', as a theme, I immediately thought of freedom. You don't get much more carefree, and freedom from any kind of worries, when you're a dog and so I based this one on my Siberian Husky.

...I'd like to say the physical exertion and playfulness is also based on her but it's currently 28C in London and she spends most of her time lounging in the shade in the garden.

05. Seeking Solace

Whether you're going through a tough patch, life's getting on top of you in general or you've just had a bad day I think most people would agree that your bedroom is the ideal place to seek solace. I know when I'm stressed or I've had a crappy day sometimes the best thing to do is to climb into bed, close the curtains - and my eyes, relax and sleep stress away.

After all, tomorrow is another day!

Trionfi Visual Development

It occurred to me the other day that I should move some of the huge amount of visual development work I produced for my MA short film project 'Trionfi' over to my blog. If you wish to see more about the production of Trionfi, and the details of the project, you can find the production blog over at: http://trionfifilm.blogspot.com

The final film can be found on Vimeo here:  https://vimeo.com/28930591

Below is a selection of character and environment design work produced in the pre-production stage of the project. After all the design work was collated there were over 80 pages that formed the visual development package for the film.

Also, there is a lot of written documentation on the pages. This was for the benefit of my lecturers grading the project as a university submission. I had to explain my design processes and decisions in a way that showed my process of thinking while working. This will mostly be removed when these designs get put into my portfolio. I wouldn't expect you guys to read through it all!

04. Dark

Number 4 - Dark. A more graphical approach than I'd usually take. The spirit of darkness spreading nightfall like a cloak over a city.

03. Light

Here is my take on the third theme in the 100 themes challenge - Light. It's my interpretation of the sun personified. Again, I'm trying to improve my speed, so this was completed in about 2-3hours from sketch to final thing.

I was planning to complete the challenge in numerical order and you don't have to be a genius to see i've skipped past number two already, but I promise you there is a valid reason for this. The subject for number two was 'Love' and I drew a sketch of a character cuddling a cat in a towel after bringing her in from the rain. This idea was based on my love for my cat Shadow. Unfortunately, a few days after I drew the sketch nearly two weeks ago, 16 year old Shadow had to be put to sleep and passed away.

Understandably I was distraught. I'm starting to feel better now but I feel i'm in no position to tackle the colouring of that particular sketch just yet. I thought of sketching something else but I want to stick with my initial idea and fully intend to complete it at some point during the challenge. Interestingly, looking back, Shadow also featured in my first go at the challenge in this version from over four years ago (and also in my first go at 'Light' too! - Although she has the terrible scale of a panther!) She was a fantastic cat and she'll be greatly missed.
