Mermay 27 - Pearl

Today and tomorrow will be quickies as it's Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK and the weather is great I am obligated to make the most of the few days of Summer we get here!

Based on the pearly Queens of London - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pearly+ladies&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi6rJjP_I_UAhWiLMAKHZnRDiUQ_AUICigB&biw=1920&bih=1094#tbm=isch&q=london+pearly+queens&imgrc=_

Mermay 25 - Crustacean

Ok, so this is my cheat day... The prompt was 'Crustacean' and I'm just a little mermaided out after 24 of them so I went for everyone's favourite crustacean - Sebastian from 'The Little Mermaid'.

Mermay 20 - Siren

I decided to do a different take when it came to this prompt! It's great to have this list to spark ideas.

Mermay 19 - Lani

Today's prompt was 'Zombie'... but I hate zombies soooo here's Trigger and Lani, an ode to Tom Bancroft who created them and the Mermay challenge.

Mermay 16 - Old

Phew... We're over half way there guys! Todays is a slightly quicker one. I have to admit I'm getting a bit of mermaid fatigue... This is by farrr the furthest i've ever got through an art challenge though so I've gotta keep going!

Mermay 14 - Reverse

Today I discovered that it is nigh impossible to create an appealing reverse mermaid....

Mermay 13 - Maid

Mermay 13, "Maid". This is the first time I've ever revisited old artwork, this mermay is based on a mermaid I did last year. I might do more of these! It's really exciting to see some improvement!

Mermay 09 - Deep Ocean

I tried something a bit different with this one, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. :)

Mermay 08 - Old Hollywood

"Hollywood, 1939. Amid the glitz and the glitter of a bustling, young movie town at the height of its golden age, The Hollywood Tower Hotel was a star in its own right..."

... Because when I see the theme 'Old Hollywood' I can't help but think of the Hollywood Tower Hotel! Flapper meets bellhop in this tribute to my favourite ride. She'd love to be flappin' her fins in the Tip Top Club but this mermaid swims directly into... The Twilight Zone.

Mermay 07 - Kelp

"Kelp", this lady has a strong hair game!

Mermay 06 - Non- Traditional

Just a quickie today! 'Non- Traditional'. I went for a kind of centauresque mermaid, based on the (adorable) axolotl.

MerMay 03 - Wicked

I had to decide whether to go for 'wicked' as in 'evil' or as in the broadway show! I went for the evil option, which is out of my cute, colourful and friendly comfort zone! This is Joan, proving at not all mermaids have to be beautiful sirens.

MerMay 02 - Seahorse

MerMay the second! I don't think i've ever drawn a seahorse before...

MerMay 01 - Amulet

It's that time of year again! Here is my first submission for 'Mermay' 2017. I'm following these prompts this year:

I managed 9 last year so i'm going to try and better that this year!

Kerry - Hen Portrait

This is one of a new series of commissions I am now offering! Hen nights and Stag dos (or Bachelor and Bachelorette parties) are a right of passage for every bride and groom that come second only to the big wedding day itself! A celebration involving the people you love most from all areas of your life who come together for a spectacular night (or whole weekend!) in celebration of your last days as a legal singleton. For a party that spans a day or weekend of multiple activities not everyone can always make every part. With one of these portraits you can really get the whole group together!

These character portraits show all the hens or stags together depicting a favourite activity from the event. In Kerry's case it was karaoke! They make a fantastic wedding gift for the bride or groom (or both!).

Prices start from £300 for 5 characters  (+ £50 for each additional person) and includes one full size print of the final piece and individual 5" x 7" matte prints of each individual character that individual hens and stags can keep for themselves and also high resolution digital copies of all files.

Custom made frames and postage/delivery can also be arranged for an additional cost. Prices based per project. Please email Lozzie@gmail.com for enquiries.

Miss Scarlett

Miss Scarlett, or Rose, is a character from a personal project of mine based on a modern take on Cluedo/Clue. Murder at Mystic Mountains centres around the theme park mogul and owner Mr Black and the mystery surrounding his murder on opening day of the parks biggest ride.

Young, cunning and highly attractive. Rose started working at the Mystic Mountains theme park in her teens with her her sights set high for great success. From the off she used her intelligence, business savy and good looks to quickly rise up the line of command. Intent on bringing herself to the attention of the executives of the company to elevate her career, Rose set her sights on becoming the poster girl for the parks new ride soon after its initial conception. She was soon chosen as the park employee who would accompany Mystic Mountains owner, the eccentric Mr Black on his first ride of the new attraction. As such she was the first to discover his body when they emerged into the light of the loading platform...

Faustino

Faustino certainly wasn't a native Venetian but he loved the city and its people. As an extravagant bird he spent most of the year trying to keep a low profile, that was until carnival season came around. Once a year he dressed up in his opulent costume and donned his ornate mask before venturing into the streets of Venice at dusk to celebrate and dance with all the people he had waited all year to walk among...

Life Drawing

My oldest friend is not only a wonderful person but also an incredibly talented (and flexible!) athlete. After making a weird artist comment that some of her photos would be great life drawing reference, she graciously sent me some top notch reference!

We Wants the Redhead!

I spend most of my weekends (well... all week really) wishing I was in Disneyland, this weekend I acted on it and spent most of my Sunday working on this piece to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, California.

It features one of the more famous townspeople; the redhead who is auctioned off for a wife as her admirers shout 'we wants the redhead!'.

Prints and phone cases of this illustration are now available on my Society 6 shop: https://society6.com/laurenscotty

Spyro the Dragon

I know everyone is all about #Zelda at the moment but I love this guy, he's up there with Crash as my favourite games characters.

I've been swamped in work recently and i'm trying to get back to making some time for myself. Switching off and relaxing is hard for me but it really does make the world of difference to my productivity if I give myself evenings and weekends off. Recently I've been replaying the original three Spyros!

Maori Warrior

Mahuika was named after the fire deity and from a young age her parents recognised their daughter's strong will and potential. Though it was unusual for females to fulfil the role of warrior, Mahuika, driven by her fierce determination, went on to become one of the best. She led her people to prosperity and prided herself on protecting her family, going on to become a legend in her own right.

Done for the Character Design Challenge over on Facebook. Their theme for this month was 'Maori Warrior'.

Puppy

Saturday sketching. I spend a lot of my time drawing humans but I really love drawing animals. I just had to get this cute puppy out of my system!

I say tea... but really I like to believe it's gin ;)
