Sketch Dailies 2014

I looked at my Blogger dashboard to see that I, shamefully, had fewer uploads this year than the last four years. I have a proper New Years post due any day now but in the mean time i've done some tidying up and catching up with sketches and artwork that has been posted elsewhere throughout the year. Starting with a great discovery during 2014 - Sketch Dailies. If you somehow haven't heard of Sketch Dailies, check out the amazing plethora of work over at - https://twitter.com/Sketch_Dailies

Candycanedeer

I can hardly believe it's that time of year again! Christmas is nearly here and although i've been struck down with the lurgy this week it isn't dampening my festive spirit. Here's the rare, but sought after, cousin of the flying reindeer - the Candycanedeer!

If I don't get to post again before the big day; have a wonderful Christmas everyone :) Eat, drink and be merry!

Halloween Twitter

It's been a very busy few months and I'm currently very snowed under with all kinds of work. It's good fun but, unfortunately, I can't show any of it yet. I'm hungry to find some time to do some more personal work but, with deadlines approaching, it'll be a little while yet until I get some time to myself - I'm looking forward to it! In the mean time, here's a quick sketch I did for a Halloween themed Twitter picture.

A Wonderful Trio of Dachshunds

This project was for a lovely client who wanted an illustration of his three dachshunds with props that conveyed their individual personalities: Oxford who is very intelligent and dapper, Choxie the little princess and the mischievous, younger Riley.

A week or so after delivering the illustration I received the most fantastic photo - my illustration, printed and framed with it's three wonderfully cute subjects. To say it made my day is an understatement! There's nothing better than a happy client, especially when there's three adorably cute doggy clients.

Iron Man

I love Iron Man.

Right, now we have that clear let's elaborate. This started as a quick sketch of Tony and Pepper Potts for the wonderful SketchDailies over on Twitter (http://twitter.com/Sketch_Dailies). Because of my love (and lust) for the greatest Avenger and super hero (ever) I decided to persist with it; cleaned it up and coloured it. I've been in a bit of an artistic rut of late, and even though this is a little joke piece, it's been a big help in pulling me out of a bit of a creative hole.

Mice & Dice

I'm currently working with Michael and Stephen Stagliano on their new board game; 'Mice & Dice'. They are funding the game's production through Kickstarter and it's really working out to be a fun project to be working on, not to mention they are fantastic clients to deal with!

Above you will see my box art illustration and three sample playing cards for each of the three categories (Mice, Cheese and Rats). If you'd like to learn more about the project, the game as a whole and are interested in backing it; the Mice & Dice Kickstarter page can be found here:

Roaring 20's

I am pleased to announce that I am now a member of 'Girls Drawing Girls'! If you haven't heard of them before, they are a fantastic group of female artists who create great work that can be found at the places below:

I'm very pleased to have been accepted among their ranks. This is the first weekly topic I've been able to get involved with - 'Roaring 20's'. I purposely stayed away from pure black and white. There was a lot of back and forth with the saturation settings but I'm quite happy with the final result.

There has been a distinct lack of updates so far this year, that has unfortunately been due to a month long bout of sickness and then a big uptake in freelance work. However I have a brief respite and I plan on making the most of it!

Spinning Geisha

After having a very slow (not my fault, I promise!) start to the year i'm trying to get back into things slowly with the aid of Stephen Silver's wonderful 'Character Design Shuffle' app. I think in future i'll group a couple of these together per post but i'll start with this one as it's my favourite one so far.

The words in the shuffle were:

Human - White

The Three Kings

Happy Three Kings day to all my Spanish and Latin American friends!

This is the first year I've ever experienced this holiday and I had a great time at the parade of the Three Kings in my town. I really enjoy learning about and experiencing different culture's traditions and celebrations. If you're celebrating today I hope you've had a wonderful time with your family and friends :)

What a Difference 12 Hours can Make

Happy New Year everyone!

Unfortunately, cracking New Year's Eve celebrations are often followed by a sofa ridden, hangover day. This was the fate that befell me a couple of days ago, what a difference 12 hours can make!
