Cup O' Doodle - Fat Bird

Two updates in one day?! It must be a bank holiday! Another CO'D scribble piece. For some reason I saw this one in the scribble straight away.

Cup O' Doodle - Cornelius

This quick doodle was done for the 'Cup O' Doodle' blog (http://cupodoodle.blogspot.co.uk/) Hopefully it will also be seen on the blog soon! You can see the original scribble and overlay below the final piece. As for the name? Well he just looks like a Cornelius!

Thanks to my friend Meg Park for introducing me to this blog via Twitter, Her wonderful blog can be found here - http://megpark.blogspot.co.uk

Mother's Day

This image was developed from a sketch done for my mum on Mother's Day, on Sunday. Because, no matter what, mum's are always there to catch you when you fall.

CG Talk Daily Sketch - 'Gun'

I used to browse CG talk's Daily Sketch forum a lot during the summer holidays between my years at uni and revisited recently for a bit of inspiration and to see what's going on. I was sad to see the forum's decline in popularity and activity but credit to Roberto Otiz for maintaining a presence and continuing to post new topics.

I decided to go for a topic totally out of my comfort zone - 'Gun'. I can honestly say i've never drawn a gun before and gave a lot of thought to the composition. This piece was great for experimenting with different ideas like using different textures and a limited colour palette.

I'm not sure exactly how long this took. I was working on it, on and off after work, for the past week. I'd say it was about 6-7 hours in total. Here's what I had after the 30 minute deadline:

A Momentous Day!

Today I received something I have wanted for so long (and have saved up for!) - a Wacom Cintiq 24HD

It is such a beautiful looking thing and the most amazing piece of equipment to use. I have only had it for about two hours and I have fallen, well and truly, in love with it!

Lastly, here's my first little sketch I did once i'd set everything up :)

Cocktail Menu

For the last few weeks I have been kept very busy in my free time with this large personal commission - a fully illustrated, and personalised cocktail menu. This project was so much fun but it required an enormous amount of research and practical work, far more than I had initially anticipated. I have learnt an incredible amount though, about cocktails, their contents and what glasses they should be served in, if nothing else! I can't possibly post the entire thing as it is a personal commission and amounts to many pages, but here's a peak at the index page containing smaller graphical illustrations of all the cocktails contained within the menu.

Christmas Card 2011

Ok, let's pretend it's not nearly the end of January...Here's my Christmas card from last year (or last month!) I didn't want to post it before everyone received theirs in the post but unfortunately once I got back to work it got slightly forgotten about!

However, here it is. It took quite a few evenings after work to create. It's a combination of 2D and 3D and is based on an idea I have had for a while; I love depicting scenes of contrasting warmth and colour and you don't get much more contrasting than a cold, Christmas Eve with snow and the glowing warmth of a child's bedroom. I wanted to capture the wonder and excitement of a child at Christmas looking out for Father Christmas.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and that the January blues haven't been too bad!
